A beloved Afghan comfort food — our handmade Mantu are delicate steamed dumplings stuffed with seasoned ground beef, onion and garlic, topped with a rich chickpea and yogurt sauce. Lovingly made fresh in our kitchen using a generations-old family recipe.
Mantu is the dish that defines Afghan home cooking. Each dumpling at Kabul Fourteen is rolled, filled and folded by hand: a thin wheat dough wrapper enclosing a savoury filling of ground beef, finely chopped onion, garlic and warm spices. They’re steamed gently to keep the wrapper silky and the filling juicy.
We finish them the traditional way — a generous spoonful of garlicky yogurt and a warm chickpea-tomato sauce ladled over the top. The result is rich, comforting and unmistakably Afghan. If you’re trying Afghan food for the first time in Winnipeg, this is the dish to order.
